2nd Lakefront Home In 3 Weeks Sells For $12 Million In Winnetka

WINNETKA, IL — Another lakefront home on Sheridan Road has changed hands, marking the second $12 million property purchase in under a month. The 0.69-acre site was last sold in April 2014 for $3.8 million, and the 5,500-square-foot, five-bedroom home was built the following year.

The home features "expansive lake views" from wall-to-wall windows, multiple gathering areas on the bluff, tiered patios, a balcony overlooking the lake and its kitchen was featured in the 2016 Chef's Kitchen House Walk.

The two eight-figure sales in Winnetka have been 2018's priciest, eclipsed only by a single Chicago condo. Crain's Chicago Business reported no Winnetka home has broken the $12 million mark since 2013, and this one sold before ever being publicly listed.

Sellers were Cynthia L. Bonds and her husband Michael Bonds, the retired human resources director of United Airlines, built the property, and the buyers have not yet been identified.

In January, the 110-year-old Magie House at 735 Sheridan Rd. designed by Joseph Llewellynsold for $10 million. Its buyers later received permission to demolish it. Then on April 28, a recently-completed lakefront home sold for $12 million.
