Daughter Of Billionaire Casino Magnate Lists Winnetka Mansion
Meredith Bluhm-Wolf, daughter of Neil Bluhm, and her husband put the contemporary home on the market for $4.65 million.
WINNETKA, IL —The daughter of billionaire real estate and casino magnate Neil Bluhm and her husband listed their Sunset Road mansion for more than $4.5 million last month, putting it among the top 10 most expensive properties on the market in the village.
The five-bedroom, two-story contemporary home has 8,900 square feet of living space on a 0.93-acre lot.
It was originally built in 1992, but it was subsequently renovated by Chicago-based firm Marvin Herman & Associates, with grounds designed by the award-winning architect Xavier Vendrall.

The house was "built for vacationing, just missing the vineyards" and offers the "best outdoor space in the North Shore," according to its listing.
Its design includes three tiers of outdoor areas and a firepit. The patios are connected by four sets of sliding glass doors to an open kitchen and breakfast space.

The home includes an indoor pool with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the stone terraces.

Inside, there is an open staircase in the atrium leading to four carpeted bedrooms and a second family room on the second floor.

Bluhm-Wolf and husband William Wolf purchased the property in November 2004 for $3.086 million, according to property records. It was listed May 16 for $4.65 million.
The property's estimated 2019 market value was $2,335,690, according to the Cook County Assessor's Office. Last year, its property tax bill was over $97,000.
Bluhm-Wolf, her sister, Leslie, and her brother, Andrew, all have ownership shares in the Rivers Casino in Des Plaines and have been labeled "key" individuals by state gambling regulators, the Better Government Association reported. The casino currently brings in more revenue than any other in the state — $400 million annually — and the Bluhms and their spouses have made significant donations to Barack Obama, Rahm Emanuel, Pat Quinn and Bruce Rauner, giving far more money to Illinois politicians than any other gambling-related interested in a six-month period, according to the report.

Churchill Downs purchased a 62 percent stake in Rivers Casino in March for $407 million, according to the Chicago Tribune. Bluhm managed to successfully lobby state lawmakers to include 18-month delay before daily fantasy sports sites could enter the Illinois market in the recent gambling expansion. The Chicago Sun-Times reported a Springfield insider described him as as the "biggest person in the fight with an army of lobbyists" as the bill was being crafted.

The 14-room Winnetka home has a metal roof and a stucco and stone exterior. There is a single wood-burning fireplace and a three-car heated attached garage. The finished basement includes a bathroom and a rec room and exercise
"Just too much to say as this house needs to be experienced to be understood," according to the description from listing agent Jena Radnay.
