Foreclosed Former Home Of Ex-Bear Lance Briggs Sells For $1.1M
The Northfield mansion sold Tuesday for less than half what the retired Chicago Bears linebacker paid for it in 2008.
NORTHFIELD, IL — The Northfield mansion lost in foreclosure last year by former Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs sold this week for less than half what he paid for it dozen years ago, records show.
Briggs bought the six-bedroom, 5,200-square-foot brick and stone English-style home as new construction for $2.3 million in 2008. In June 2017, Citibank filed for foreclosure on the 1.04-acre property near the corner of Winnetka and Sunset Ridge roads, which was being offered for sale for over $2 million at the time, according to court and property records.
Nearly two years later, CitiMortgage took over the property following a court-ordered sale. The asking price was lowered to below $1 million in November 2019, according to its listing. The sale closed Tuesday for $1.1 million.

Briggs, 39, spent all of his 12-year NFL playing career with the Bears before retiring in 2015. In recent years, he has hosted a show and been an analyst with local cable channels and spoken openly about living with the early stages of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE.

The Northfield home includes a two-story entrance, vaulted ceilings and a fireplace in its living room, French doors from the family room to a covered patio and private backyard, a first-floor master suite, a large balcony and deck on the second floor overlooking the backyard and a finished basement with a wet bar, media room and sixth bedroom, according to its listing.

Its estimated 2019 market value for taxing purposes is nearly $1.8 million, according to the Cook County assessor's office. Last year, its property tax bill totaled more than $23,000. The identity of its new owners was not yet available in public records.
Currently listed in Cook County records as a resident of Boca Raton, Florida, Briggs lost another North Shore property in foreclosure last year, when Deutsche Bank National Trust Company took control of a Northbrook townhome he purchased in 2006, according to court and property records. That property was auctioned last month, but its sale has yet to close.
