Frank Lloyd Wright Glencoe Cottage Hits Market

WOW House: This $1 million Glencoe landmark is looking for a "special buyer," its listing says.

GLENCOE, IL — It's your chance to own a piece of architectural history and a Village of Glencoe landmark, as a $1 million summer cottage built more than a century ago by Frank Lloyd Wright is looking for "Wright enthusiasts and architects to bring this home back to its former glory," according to its listing.

Built for the family of Sherman Booth, who was Wright's attorney, in 1913 ahead of the construction of a larger Booth family home. However, the Booths' plans adjusted and their private estate eventually was subdivided – creating Ravine Bluffs.

After their main home was completed in 1916, the cottage was moved to its current location. It includes three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, hardwood floors and an unfinished basement. There's one fireplace, electric heating and an attached one-car garage.

The home was listed Oct. 13 for $1 million. According to the Cook County Assessor, the 2017 estimated market value is $653, 650.

The cottage was granted landmark status in 1996 by the Glencoe Historic Preservation Commission and the Village of Glencoe, and the owner is looking "to find a special buyer who will commit to preserving this fabulous piece of history."
