Winnetka Mansion Is Priciest Suburban Home Sale So Far In 2020

WINNETKA, IL — A lakefront mansion built in 1926 atop a Winnetka bluff sold for $9.5 million this week, becoming the priciest suburban home sale so far in 2020.

The sale of the Sheridan Road home closed more than two years after it was first listed by the estate of a pioneering plastic surgeon.

Built in the Tudor Revival style, the 4,850-square-foot, four-bedroom mansion is located on a 1.1 acre lot. Its stone, brick and slate design includes several balconies with lake views.

"An open, rare, non-forested front sweeping lawn is large enough to fit most other lakefront properties within it," according to the home's listing, which described the house as "recently refreshed" and "meticulously maintained."

The property also includes about 9,000 square feet of private sandy beach, according to its listing.

The house was first listed in July 2018 with an asking price of $9.6 million. It was reduced to just under $9 million for most of 2019.

In July, a new brokerage listed the property for $12 million. An officer was accepted earlier this month and the sale closed Tuesday.

Neither the property's previous sale price nor its new buyer could be immediately determined from public records.

According to the Cook County Assessor's Office, the estimated market value of the home for taxing purposes is $4.5 million. Its annual property tax bill was more than $116,000 last year.

The Sheridan Road mansion sold Tuesday eclipses the property next door to become the village's most expensive sale of the year so far.

The neighboring home, which appears headed for demolition, was sold for $8.2 million in September.
