Most Expensive Home Sold In Winnetka Last Year To Be Demolished
The total cost of the future lakefront Sheridan Road home could rise into 8 figures, as a nearby new home last month sold for $12 million.
WINNETKA, IL — The most expensive home sold in Winnetka last year is set to be torn down. The Mediterranean-style lakefront mansion at 973 Sheridan Rd. built in 1990 for Ann and Robert Lurie was sold last September to unidentified buyers. The 1.66-acre property includes 100 feet of private beach just north of Tower Road, received a demolition permit on March 5.
In 1997, the home was purchased for $5.5 million by banker Robert Glickman, whose Corus Bank became the largest in the area to be shut down by the FDIC in 2008. He listed the property for $9.75 million in 2012, gradually reducing the asking price over the next five years before it sold for nearly $6.2 million last September.

In this case, the Winnetka Landmark Preservation Commission did not find the home to have any historic or architectural significance. When it does, it can order a study on the historical architectural impact of demolition and issue 60 delay, as it did for the Magie House at 973 Sheridan Rd.

"This one-of-a-kind house inspires this generation and those yet to come." it said.
