These Are The 10 Richest Towns In Illinois
10 Chicago suburbs were ranked among the nation's top 100 wealthiest towns in an annual analysis of U.S. Census data.

One in 10 of the most affluent communities in the country are in Illinois, with half of the state's richest towns are on Chicago's North Shore, according to the 2019 Bloomberg Richest Places rankings. Glencoe jumped over Winnetka into the nation's top 10 richest places in the annual index, as income data show the richest areas of the country getting notably wealthier.
Inflation-adjusted average household income in Glencoe rose from about $307,000 to nearly $339,883 from 2016 to 2017, growing by more than 10 percent and giving the village the No. 10 spot. Winnetka remained No. 13 for a second consecutive year, but household incomes still rose nearly 6 percent to to $331,231.
Lake Forest dropped one spot to 34 in this year's rankings, with its average house income rising over 2.1 percent to nearly $269,000. Wilmette remained outside the top 50, while Highland Park retained the No. 100 ranking for the second consecutive year, with income rising 5.5 percent to $209,000, according to Bloomberg.

Away from the North Shore, Hinsdale fell by 11 places to No. 41, the largest drop in the top 50. Oak Brook fell 14 places in the rankings to No. 70, the largest fall in the top 100, according to Crain's Chicago Business. Burr Ridge and Clarendon Hills dropped out of the top 100 this year, but Hawthorn Woods, Inverness and Long Grove remained. Six other suburbs, including Deerfield, cracked the top 200, Crain's found.
There were 12 Illinois towns in the 2018 edition of the rankings and 11 in Bloomberg's 2017 version. Only three other states — California with 23, New Jersey with 18 and New York with 13 — contained more of the richest locations than Illinois in 2019, as Bloomberg found more than half of the top 100 wealthiest communities were in the New York City area or California.

Bloomberg ranks communities based on average household income using the U.S. Census data. The designated areas do not include any unincorporated areas, and households without any type of income were excluded.
Only towns with at least 2,000 households qualify as "places" for purposes of Bloomberg's ranking — excluding Kenilworth and its fewer than 900 homes.
