NORTHFIELD, IL — A custom contemporary mansion in Northfield hit the market Monday for the first time since it was built. The five-bedroom design was completed in 2012 on more than an acre of land on a private cul-de-sac.
The home is a "livable piece of art" and the "ultimate modern sanctuary, according to its listing, with an open floor plan and floor-to-ceiling windows extending two stories to fill the space with light.

The rear of the 16-room home is positioned to face southwest into a manicured lawn and forested area separating the property from the back of the Medline Industries parking lot.

"No expense was spared with every detail meticulously cultivated to perfection," according to its listing, which notes its luxury finishes from Dornbracht, Karcher, Lualdi, Lutron, Miele, Subzero and Wolf.
The home has a finished basement, heated floors, five en-suite bathrooms, three fireplaces, an outdoor grill and fire pit, a balcony, deck and an attached three-car garage.

Greg Greenberg, a founder of a private equity firm based in Lincolnshire, and Judy Engel Greenberg, a funeral director at Chicago Jewish Funerals, purchased the property for $675,000 in 2010 prior to the construction of the home, according to the Cook County Recorder of Deeds.
Its estimated 2018 market value is $1,629,500 for taxing purposes, according to the Cook County Assessor's Office. The annual property tax bill for 2017 was more than $44,000.

Rolling Ridge Road, a cul-de-sac located south of Sunset Ridge Golf Course and north of Willow Road, is a private road, and the village of Northfield established a special service area to pay for bonds to cover the cost of the repaving, storm sewer improvements and installation of private sanitary and water main for the benefit of the 15 homeowners on the block.

The cost to built the house could not be confirmed, although a $1.45 million mortgage was taken out on the property in 2011 before it was completed. Neither Greenberg nor listing agent Jena Radnay responded to requests for comment about the property Tuesday.
The Greenbergs' newly-listed home is located across the street from another contemporary architectural gem – the award-winning glass house built by Chicago-based architect Thomas Roszak for his own family. That home was listed in April 2017 for $3.1 million, with its price dropping to $2.9 million last year.
