Design-Build Contract Approved for Woodridge Long-Term Facility
The Woodridge Village Board approved a design-build contract for long-term facility plans.
WOODRIDGE, IL — During a Thursday meeting, Woodridge Mayor Gina Cunningham and the Village Board approved a design-build contract with Harbour Construction and Studio GC Architecture, the village announced in a news release sent to Patch. According to the village, the scope is to complete the initial design phase for the new Woodridge Police Department station, new Public Works Salt Dome and Cold Storage Facilities, and renovate the current police department/public works facility at 1 Plaza Drive.
According to the news release, design-build is a construction delivery method that has one entity, the design-build team, that works under a single contract with the project owner to provide design and construction services.
“Since the early 2000s, the Village Board recognized the need for new and improved facilities. Approving this design contract is a great step forward,” Cunningham said, in the news release. “It was a team effort to select Harbour and Studio GC out of the 10 companies selected for interviews. As Mayor and Board of Trustees, it’s our duty to help envision the future of our community. We look forward to the groundbreaking of the new Police Department station towards the end of 2021.”

The current Woodridge Police Department and Public Works facility was built in 1986, the village said, adding that the village commissioned its first of several facilities and space needs studies in 2004 to conduct an initial analysis of the existing building’s condition, and to identify the long-term facility needs and potential property locations to assure appropriate long-term planning for the village in the future.

In 2019, the board approved the purchase of a parcel of land on the northern portion of the
former Wilton property as the Woodridge Police Department's future location, according to the news release. The village added that this site is notable because of its central location and proximity to the existing municipal campus.
“Through this process, I have realized the effort that has gone into this project,” Woodridge Police Chief Brian Cunningham said, in the news release. “The combined efforts of the Village Board, staff and community support have made this project a reality and a true representation of a community-driven project.”
Director of Public Works Chris Bethel added some remarks regarding modifications to the current facility.
“The salt dome, cold storage, and modifications to the existing 1 Plaza Drive facility will improve
the efficiency of our operations in Public Works and have a positive impact on service delivery to
Woodridge residents,” Bethel said, in the news release. “Thank you to Mayor Cunningham, the Village Board, and staff for their commitment to moving this important project forward.”
