Downers Grove North Girls Swim and Dive Team Hosts Trojan Invite

The Downers Grove North Girls Swim and Dive Team hosted the Trojan Invite on Friday and Saturday, placing fourth in both the Varsity and Frosh/Soph competitions.

Downers Grove South’s Varsity team placed first overall followed by Lockport Township in second place and Benet Academy, which edged out DGN by one point for third place.

Maine South won the Frosh-Soph competition, with Lockport Township placing second, Benet placing third, and DGS placing sixth.

The Downers Grove North Trojans showed promise at the meet with several strong performances, including first place finishes in both the 200 yard IM and 100 yard butterfly races for sophomore Ellie Benge. In the Varsity 200 yard medley relay, DGN’s team of Cassandra Candel, Jaye Sevcik, Ellie Benge, and Emma Roche took second place to DGS. In an exciting end to the meet, the Downers Grove North Varsity 400 yard freestyle relay team of Cassandra Candel, Maddy Carroll, Jaye Sevcik, and Ellie Benge narrowly beat the relay team from Downers Grove South for first place.

In the Varsity Diving Competition, DGN juniors Emily and Elizabeth Aument continued their stellar season, placing first and second respectively. Freshman Kelly Brinkman placed second and sophomore Bella Cotterell placed third in the Frosh/Soph Diving The Trojan Frosh/Soph swim team also performed well. Mary Bonanno placed third in the 100 yard butterfly event, and Quinn Stephens placed second in the 100 yard breaststroke race. The 400 yard freestyle relay team of Lucy Lloyd, Bridget Deegan, Madeleine Kirby, and Mary Bonanno placed third.

Downers Grove North Girls Swim And Dive Team Falls To York

The Downers Grove North Girls Swim and Dive Team competed against York High School in Elmhurst on Wednesday, September 23. While York won the meet, there were many highlights and best times for the Downers Grove North Trojans during this meet.

Junior Emily Aument earned first place for 1 Meter diving, setting a new pool record with a score of 267.05. Junior Elizabeth Aument placed second. Bella Cotterell earned second place for Frosh/Soph 1 meter diving. Freshman Quinn Stevens won the 100 yard Frosh/Soph breaststroke event. Senior Natalie Costello won the Junior Varsity 50 and 100 yard freestyle events, and Sophomore Ellie Benge won the Varsity 100 yard butterfly.
