Edward Hospital NICU Reunion

Gabriella Cobren of Woodridge, Edward Hospital Newborn Intensive Care Unit Class of 2013 and Dr. Mike Fitzgerald.

Edward Hospital held its biennial Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Reunion on Sunday, October 18 at the DuPage Children’s Museum in Naperville. Hundreds of “graduates” of the NICU were in attendance at the event, which celebrates each child’s progress, enables parents to meet other NICU families, and gives doctors and nurses an opportunity to see many of the babies they cared for in the NICU. Edward’s Level III NICU is able to treat the sickest and most fragile newborns of all gestational ages, including those with a variety of congenital and surgical conditions. Edward’s NICU has cared for more than 7,500 babies since it opened in the 1990s, when it was known as a Special Care Nursery. Children from the first NICU Class of 1996 are now 18-19 years old.
