Find a Woodridge Cooling Center to Escape Excessive Heat

Residents are urged to check on their relatives, friends and neighbors as the week heats up.

WOODRIDGE, IL — Temperatures are on the rise this week in the Chicago area, and the National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for Thursday afternoon through Friday evening.

This level of heat can pose health risks, especially to elderly adults, young children and pets.

The Woodridge Public Library, 3 Plaza Drive, will serve as a cooling center.

Library hours are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Additional cooling centers at the Woodridge Police Department, One Plaza Drive, and Village Hall, Five Plaza Drive, can be accessed through referral by calling 852-7000.

Public health officials recommend avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during the heat of the day, wearing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drinking plenty of water.
