Labor Day Impaired Driving, Seat Belt Crackdown In Woodridge
The Woodridge Police Department is joining law enforcement throughout Illinois for the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" Labor Day campaign.
WOODRIDGE, IL — With Labor Day and the end of summer right around the corner, the Woodridge Police Department is joining law enforcement throughout Illinois for the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign happening now through the morning of Sept. 8. According to a news release from the Woodridge Police Department, law enforcement agencies across the state are teaming up to stop impaired driving and help save lives. During this campaign period, drivers can expect to see an increase in impaired driving patrols and seat belt enforcement, especially at night when seat belt usage rates are at their lowest, the police department said, adding that distracted drivers and those who drive above the speed limit should also be aware.
“While celebrations marking the last days of summer may look different this year than in times past, the potential remains for an increase in the number of impaired drivers on the roads,” Woodridge Police Department Deputy Chief Tom Stefanson said. “Impaired driving kills more than 10,000 people in the United States each year. Please plan ahead for a safe ride home before you leave the house. It truly is a matter of life or death.”
The police department said that if you plan on celebrating this Labor Day, remember to designate a sober driver and do not let friends or family members drive drunk. Even a small amount of alcohol can impair judgment and reaction times, making driving unsafe, the police department added.
