'Racially Insensitive Post' Under Investigation In Woodridge

Police say the video, posted to TikTok, involved students wearing blackface.

WOODRIDGE, IL — Woodridge police are investigating a social media post that involved "several minors in blackface," according to a press release from the Woodridge Police Department. The "racially insensitive" post, which was shared on TikTok, involved students and was viewed by "numerous Woodridge School District 68 students and parents," police said.

Woodridge Mayor Gina Cunningham said in a statement, "Over the past few weeks, I've seen the extraordinary neighborly spirit and kindness of our residents —it saddens me that this incident occurred that is not indicative of our community values. This video hurt many of our neighbors and it happened when we all need to help and support each other. I'm hopeful that those involved will learn from this matter and understand Woodridge's unwavering commitment to being an inclusive community."

Woodridge Police Chief Brian Cunningham encouraged parents to monitor their children's activity on social media. He said, "It only takes one social media post to reverberate and impact people negatively, potentially for a lifetime."
