Tornado In Woodridge, Injuries In Naperville, Gas Leaks: Reports
Police in Woodridge were asking residents to avoid hard-hit areas due to debris in roadways and heavy first responder presence.

ILLINOIS — The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down Sunday night near the Woodridge/Bolingbrook border, calling it a "confirmed large and extremely dangerous tornado" and a "life-threatening situation."
Severe storms impacted much of the Chicago area, including O'Hare airport, where flights were reportedly delayed due to tornado warnings.
In Woodridge, police were asking residents to avoid the areas of Janes Avenue, Woodridge Drive and Woodward Avenue, adding, "Those streets may be impassable due to debris and first responder activity." Police also noted a tornado touchdown had been confirmed in the village.

ComEd was also reporting around 35,000 customers without power, including more than 4,700 in Woodridge, late Sunday night into early Monday morning.

- Woodridge: Tornado confirmed via debris near Route 53 and 75th Street near the Woodridge/Bolingbrook border at 11:09 p.m., via the National Weather Service
- Woodridge: DuComm Dispatch reporting "several structure collapses" near 7800 S. Janes Avenue and Woodridge Drive in Woodridge after a possible tornado touchdown, according to NBC Chicago.
- Naperville: A dozen homes were damaged, and six people were injured — including four who were "rushed to hospitals" in the severe storms, CBS reported
- Flight delays were reported, with one passenger saying via Twitter that they were required to deplane and take shelter.
- In Plainfield, police reported downed tree limbs and power lines near Bartlett, Amboy and Eastern, along with power outages.
- Darien police were warning residents of downed power lines around town, but said there were no reports of injuries as of just before 1 a.m.
A severe thunderstorm watch was in effect until 2 a.m. in Kendall, Grundy, Will and Kankakee counties, and flood advisories were in effect until 3 a.m. in Cook, DuPage, Eastern Cane, northeastern Kendall, southern Lake, southeastern McHenry, northern Will and northwestern Lake counties.
The National Weather Service said it intends to release preliminary storm information by 7 a.m. Monday.
