WOODRIDGE, IL — The Woodridge School District 68 Board of Education has received the 2020 Illinois Association of School Boards School Board Governance Recognition, one of only 15 school boards from around the state.

Good governance requires a commitment to improvement and continual board development. Adopting polices and attending workshops are just the beginning. This recognition honors boards who model these best practices on an ongoing basis. The application process is rigorous and requires the involvement of board members and the superintendent over a two-year period. This is the second time in a row Woodridge 68 has earned this recognition.

“I’m proud of our school district and the school board for earning this award,” said Steven Gustis, Woodridge 68 School Board President. “During one of the most challenging times in our school district's history, our board continues to make learning and growth a priority. The commitment demonstrated by each board member for continuous improvement demonstrates the dedication and care that the board has for our students and this community. I thank each board member for their dedication, courage and advocacy for excellence in public education."

The School Board Governance Recognition program acknowledges school boards that learn and practice effective governance behaviors as identified in IASB’s Foundational Principles of Effective Governance, through participation in and support for board development programs and events.

The primary focus of this program in on full board development and participation rather than individual board member efforts. Effective school boards understand that excellence in local school board governance requires full board commitment to obtaining knowledge, skills, and abilities critical to good governance.
