Woodridge Library's Willy Wonka Wonderland a Roaring Success With 1,300 Attendees

The Woodridge Library is celebrating its 50th anniversary all year, and that party kicked off with Saturday’s Willy Wonka Golden Ticket event.

From 9 a.m.-4 p.m., village residents were encouraged to stop by the public library and pick up a free chocolate bar — five of which held a “golden ticket” for a $50 Visa gift card.

The event was wildly successful, Patti Naisbitt, the library’s public relations and programs coordinator, said, with 1,300 local attendees of all ages. The following photos and numbers tell the whole story:

  • 1,077 Willy Wonka chocolate bars were handed out
  • 175 people attended the two screenings of the original “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”
  • 257 was the winning number for the “Guess-the-number-of-candies-in-the-jar” game
  • 1,200 bags of freshly popped popcorn were consumed
  • #17 in the Trivia Contest was the hardest question: What were the candy bars used in the filming of Willy Wonka made of? The answer was wood.
  • Kids crafted 400 lollipop bookmarks
  • 41 percent of event attendees said Charlie Bucket was their favorite golden ticket winner. Veruca Salt was second, at 26 percent.
  • 2 candy bars came out on top in the Candy Bar Personality Test: Almond Joys and Snickers
  • Library-goers collected 8,000 pieces of retro candy on the Candy Walk. The most popular were Caramel Creams
