Woodridge Public Library Announces Early October Events

Check out these events the Woodridge Public Library has planned through mid-October.

Banned Books Week (September 30 to October 6). This year marks the 30th anniversary of Banned Books Week and the theme is “30 Years of Liberating Literature.” During this week the Library will display materials that have been banned, challenged, or restricted in the United States during those 30 years. This week was established to highlight the importance of free and open access to a wide range of ideas and the importance of the First Amendment.

This month’s social networking topic is Pinterest! It’s the hottest new networking site and one of the most fun ones to use. Come see a demonstration and learn more about pinning, boards, and what the fuss is all about.

Learn to Download Audiobooks

Wednesday, October 10, 7:00 p.m.

Learn to check out digital audiobooks from Media On Demand, the Library’s online audiobook service. There are more than 2,000 titles available that you can listen to on your MP3 player, iPod, or other portable device. We will provide a demonstration and answer questions you might have.

College of DuPage Representative

Thursday, October 11, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

A representative from the College of DuPage will be in the Library lobby to answer any questions you might have about the College.

The Ghosts of Edgar Allan Poe

Thursday, October 11, 7:00 p.m.

Spend a spine-tingling evening in the parlor of Edgar Allan Poe. Brian “Fox” Ellis will recount the tormented true tales of Poe’s life and how they led to his classic tales of terror. Ellis will recite The Raven and The Tell-Tale Heart as well as other works.

Calling all needle workers! Join us for conversation and companionship and to work on any needle-related project. Bring your own supplies and learn from each other. Everyone is welcome, beginners to advanced. No registration needed.
