Woodridge Tallies Damage From EF-3 Tornado

As of late Tuesday, 140 homes had sustained "major damage" and 21 homes were a "complete loss," village officials said.

WOODRIDGE, IL — Some 300 Woodridge homes were damaged by the EF-3 tornado that ripped through the village late Sunday, according to new data from village officials Tuesday evening.

With Woodridge's damage assessment roughly 80 percent complete, over 700 homes had been evaluated by the village's Community Development Department. Per Tuesday's totals:

  • 140 homes had sustained "major damage"
  • 21 homes were deemed a "complete loss"

As of 12 p.m. Tuesday, fewer than 600 Woodridge residents were still without electricity, significantly down from the 6,000 ComEd customers in the village who lost power just after the storm.

'Spirit Of Woodridge Alive And Strong' After EF-3 Tornado

Woodridge's Public Works Department is still working to reopen streets and clear fallen tree limbs and other debris. They have been aided by Woodridge School District 68 and the Woodridge Park District, along with public works departments in Batavia, Bensenville, Carol Stream, Hoffman Estates, Homewood, Lockport, Oswego and Western Springs.
