Woodridge VFW Post 1578 held its 37th Veteran's Day Ceremony

Due to the cold weather conditions, this year's Veteran's Day ceremony was held indoors at the Woodridge Public Library.

Woodridge residents and members of the Woodridge Village Board of Trustees were in attendance. Guest speakers included Illinois State Senator John Curran, Illinois State Representative John Connor and Woodridge Mayor Gina Cunningham. State Representative Connor's son Colin wrote the following which his father read at the Ceremony:

We are here today to honor those here who have served, and those not here who have served. May those who have served who are not here rest in peace knowing they have kept this country free. I know those of you who have served have heard many people say thank you for your service, so instead I’m going to say thank you for sacrificing for us, protecting us, risking your life for us, and watching friends get injured or die, all for the freedom of those you love, but also for those you don’t - people who don’t even know who you are. That’s worth more than just the word service, and it’s definitely worth more than that definition, but I’d like to think it is a step in the right direction.
