Woodridge Wraps Construction On 83rd Street Bridge For Winter
Construction on the bridge will be completed in 2020.

WOODRIDGE, IL — Construction to rehabilitate the 83rd Street bridge has temporarily stopped to allow the bridge to reopen for winter. The ongoing project closed the bridge completely at the start of September, giving some commuters travel headaches.
In September, crews removed part of the bridge surface, broke down concrete, and made repairs to the shallow rebar.
Additional work is being done in the spring because the "correct temperature and weather is important to ensure that the concrete sets correctly," Woodridge officials say.

According to Woodridge spokesperson Jim Hoff, there aren't any structural issues with the bridge, but cracks in the new surface overlay will require the concrete to be removed and poured again.
While there are no structural concerns, there are cracks in the new surface overlay which will ultimately shorten the lifespan of the work that was just completed, so the concrete will need to be removed and poured again.
