How Kendall County Towns Rank On Safest Cities List
A study by the National Council for Home Safety and Security took a look at violent crime and property crime rates.

KENDALL COUNTY, IL — A new ranking of crime rates from the National Council for Home Safety and Security shows that some of the safest cities in Illinois are right here in the Chicago metropolitan area. In Kendall County, Yorkville came in at No. 41, Oswego came in at No. 58 and Montgomery was No. 110 on the 206-city ranking.
Here's how the rankings broke down:
- No. 41 Yorkville: Population 18,752; 13 reported violent crimes; violent crime rate of 0.69 per 1,000 people.
- No. 58 Oswego: Population 34,681; 25 reported violent crimes; violent crime rate of 0.72 per 1,000 people.
- No. 110 Montgomery: Population 19,703; 18 reported violent crimes; violent crime rate of 0.91 per 1,000 people.

Illinois has fewer per capita property crimes than most states but more violent crimes, according to the rankings. Its violent crime rate made it the 35th-safest state in the U.S., when adjusted for population, but it has the 18th lowest rate of property crimes.
Chicago was ranked 195th out of 206 Illinois cities, with a rate of more than 11 violent crimes and nearly 32 property crimes per 1,000 people.

The five least-safe towns on the list were Springfield, Rockford, East St. Louis, Mount Vernon, Lansing and Danville.
