Fort Wayne Police Investigating After Officer Hit By Car

Fort Wayne Police officials report an officer was struck during a hit-and-run while removing a deer from the road.

FORT WAYNE, IN — Fort Wayne Police officials are searching for a driver who hit an officer Sunday night. Police say the Fort Wayne officer was hit by a car while responding to a call to remove a dead deer from the street at West Jefferson Boulevard and Edgebrook, The Journal Gazette reports, adding that the officer's car was parked and the emergency lights were on. The newspaper says that according to the incident report, a dark-colored car hit the officer while he was outside his squad car and part of the other car's mirror broke off.

According to the police report, the hit-and-run was caught on video from the officer's car.

The police report says the officer was treated for injuries at the scene, The Journal Gazette adds.
