Happy Birthday Indiana

203 years ago, on December 11, 1816, Indiana was admitted to the union.

On December 11, 2019, Indiana will celebrate 203 years as the 19th state admitted to the union. To celebrate, we used State Data Lab to find fun facts about Indiana and to learn more about the Hoosier State.

Indiana scored an 86 on our 2019 Financial Transparency Report and is ranked 15th in our Financial State of the States. The Hoosier State is doing better financially than many others.
While the Pawnee Parks Department isn’t real, Indiana did spend $51.9 million on Parks and Recreational expenditures.

The state also spent $385. million on natural resources that same year. Sounds like a lot? The state’s song is "On the Banks of the Wabash, Far Away,” which is named after a river that runs through Indiana.

27.1 percent of Indiana's 25 and older population has a bachelor's degree and 9.8 percent have an advanced degree.

In 2018, 48 percent of households in Indiana were married-couple households.

Indiana is known as the crossroads of America, and they are paying for it. In 2018 Indiana spent $2.47 billion on highway expenditures. The $2.47 billion did not help with all the potholes, Indiana is ranked 33rd in highway performance

Two percent of Indiana’s workforce is employed in the farming industry. Indiana farmers planted 936,000 acres of cover crops in 2017, which is the third-highest in the nation.
