Indianapolis Starbucks Honors Officer During National Coffee With A Cop Day
MORE: The Indianapolis location inspiring this 100-store National Coffee With A Cop Day celebration.
Last week we celebrated National Coffee Day, - and while today is National Taco Day, it's also National Coffee with a Cop Day, bringing with it a big way to participate. Nearly 100 Starbucks locations across the U.S. are hosting events to bring community members and their local police officers together, in an effort for everyone to get to know each other. According to the company, there is no set agenda, just an idea for people and police to connect on topics that matter most to their community.
According to a release, the Starbucks in the Shadeland community of Indianapolis is leading by example, and Starbucks is honored to share the location's inspirational story about employee Chris Fortis and deputy chief Jim Waters.
Starbucks said: "A robbery at the Shadeland store in Aug. 2016 began a relationship with deputy chief Jim Waters, who responded on the scene – a relationship that grew into a beloved connection and a strengthened community. This summer, Officer Waters lost his life in a car accident, and the Starbucks partners (employees) whose lives he touched honor his memory as all future Coffee with a Cop events will be renamed 'Coffee with Waters.' For Starbucks, this store is at the forefront of a national commitment the company announced in February to host 100 Coffee with a Copy events around the country. As of today, Starbucks reports they've hosted more than 300 events, and will now expand that commitment to 1,000 events in the year ahead.

The company adds this is all possible thanks to the work of local officers and Starbucks partners like those at the Shadeland Starbucks.
