Mom Of 3 Kids Killed In Bus Stop Crash Lunges At Driver In Court

It happened after Alyssa Shepherd was sentenced to four years for the October 2018 deaths of the mother's three children at an IN bus stop.

FULTON COUNTY, IN — A woman was sentenced Wednesday to four years in prison after being convicted of reckless homicide for killing three children and injuring another while driving past a stopped school bus in 2018 , according to several reports.

Alyssa Shepherd of Rochester, Indiana, is to serve four years in the Indiana Department of Corrections, in addition to three years on home detention followed by three years of probation, along with a suspended license for all 10 years, WSBT reported.

Brittany Ingle, the mother of the three children hit and killed Oct. 30, 2018, was also taken out of the courtroom in handcuffs and was charged with misdemeanor battery after she lunged at and made contact with Shepherd, according to ABC 57.

According to WSBT, Shepherd apologized and told the court her "heart breaks for the families who feel the loss." Her husband told the judge it would be a hardship for their family if Shepherd spent time in prison, as the couple has two kids that Shepherd is able to take with her to her job. according to WSBT.

Shepherd was convicted in October of reckless homicide after authorities said she passed a school bus while its stop arm was out, fatally striking 6-year-old Xzavier Ingle, his twin brother, Mason Ingle, and their sister, 9-year-old Alivia Stahl. State police said all three siblings died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash, which happened at around 7:15 a.m.

Maverik Lowe, 11, also was hit. He suffered multiple broken bones and internal injuries, police said. The boy continues recovering from the crash.
