Hamilton County Providing Coronavirus Vaccinations To Homebound Hoosiers

The Carmel Fire Department is working with the Hamilton County Health Department to administer COVID-19 vaccines to people who are unable to leave their homes. This week, 18 homebound residents were vaccinated in Carmel.

The program is part of the Homebound Hoosier EMS Vaccine Administration Program and provides vaccines to at-risk, hard-to-reach and immobile residents. Carmel Fire EMS Chief Jon Alverson was involved with planning and implementing this program to be used in Carmel, as well as playing a key role in working with fire departments throughout the state.

“This is one more way for the City of Carmel to help our residents who are most in need of the vaccination, but have been unable to get out to get the shots,” said Mayor Jim Brainard. “We are doing all we can to take advantage of science and new ways of administering potentially life-saving vaccines so that we can fight off this deadly pandemic virus.”

The Hamilton County Health Department is working with Carmel and other cities in Hamilton County to provide these vaccines to people where they live. Those who are homebound should contact the Homebound Hoosier number at 1-800-986-3505 to schedule a visit.
