Indiana Sunday Carryout Alcohol Sales Begin

People across the Indianapolis area are now able to buy alcohol with their groceries for the first time on a Sunday: More

CARMEL, IN — Sunday, March 4 marks the first day people can buy carryout alcohol for the first time in Indiana, and they're doing just that. Lines at Costco's Castleton location were almost as long as the entire store with several carts containing alcohol, and other store parking lots in the Indianapolis area were quite full.

AP News reports Gov. Eric Holcomb joined in the first Sunday purchase fun, buying some beer from an Indianapolis shop. This comes just four days after he signed the bill allowing alcohol sales noon-8 p.m. on Sundays.

According to AP News, liquor store owners have fought for Sunday sales for a long time and are taking different business approaches, including the Big Red Liquors chain, which is offering Sunday discounts on Indiana-made beer, wine and liquor.
