Classes Resume At 2 HSE Schools After Teacher Murder-Suicide

According to recent reports, police believe man shot and killed his estranged wife before fatally shooting himself.

FISHERS, IN — Hamilton Southeastern Schools Superintendent Dr. Allen Bourff shared a message Sunday, as students and staff of two district schools prepared to return to their daily school routine Monday, less than a week after the deaths of two district teachers. The following is a message from Bourff, via HSE Schools:

"Classes resume Monday, October 29 at Hoosier Road Elementary and Fall Creek Intermediate, and our sympathies go out to the Sergi family and especially to their sons. Our thanks go to the many patrons and neighbors who have extended themselves to support our staffs. Our admiration, confidence, and thanks go out to our staff for their resilience and determination to serve their students in the wake of such tragedy and their own personal grief. As I have said so many times throughout recent days, we have good people coming together to work through this challenge, and they will. To our families and to our students, rest assured that you are in capable, professional, and most of all, loving hands as school starts again.

Yes, classes resume tomorrow at Hoosier Road Elementary and Fall Creek Intermediate, but throughout all of Hamilton Southeastern Schools, all schools open with a heightened awareness of the fragility of life and the significance of each individual.

Fishers Police Department said the bodies of 44-year-old Kristal Sergi and 52-year-old Frank Sergi II, identified by the Hamilton County Coroner's Office, were found inside a home on Dorster Street, at 131st and Pennington Drive Wednesday evening, Oct. 24. Police said they're continuing to investigate the deaths of what HSE School District calls "two beloved teachers" from Fall Creek Intermediate and Hoosier Road Elementary.

WTHR said police believe Frank shot and killed his estranged wife Kristal before fatally shooting himself.

Frank was an art teacher at Fall Creek Intermediate and Kristal was a preschool teacher at Hoosier Road Elementary.

According to WXIN, court records show the pair filed for divorce in August, and neighbors said the wife Kristal no longer lived at the home which went up for sale that same month.

A family friend of the duo said he and others got a text message from Frank, that said to look after the couple's kids, along with phone numbers to call.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to contact Detective/Lieutenant Todd Crowder at 317-595-3329.

School was cancelled Thursday and Friday at both schools.

Upon their return to school, the outpouring of support continues for students and staff.

Patch will continue updating this story as information becomes available.
