Health Dept. Closes North Side McDonald's For Excessive Flies

Why this inspection led to a temporary shut down of the restaurant, after several recent other inspections.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — A north side McDonald's has been temporarily shut down after the Marion County Health Department said they received complaints about excessive flies at the 16th and Meridian restaurant. WRTV reported the health department received complaints Tuesday regarding a pest issue involving house flies and fruit flies, leading to the location being closed Wednesday. According to the news report, the McDonald's will hire an exterminator followed by another inspection to see when the restaurant can reopen, the health department said.

Recent online inspection records from the health department show officials inspected the same McDonald's on July 11, 18, 20, 26 and Aug. 1, each resulting in finding gnats that were present inside the restaurant, including the dining area during the July 11 and 18 inspections, and gnats located in the drive thru coffee area during the other three.

This time however, investigators told WRTV there was an excessive amount of fruit flies, therefore immediate action had to be taken.
