FISHERS, IN — Memorial Day will be here before we know it, so Patch has put together a guide to Memorial Day events in Fishers.
Memorial Day Ceremony: Mayor Fadness and City of Fishers staff are inviting residents to a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 28 at 10 a.m. The event will take place at Liberty Plaza on the Central Green in front of City Hall. City officials say the brave service men and women who've made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom will be honored and remembered. The Memorial Day Ceremony is free and open to all and will feature speakers from the community and the Folds of Honor Program.
Honor the Brave 5k Run/Walk: The city invites everyone to honor the service men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day and originated in the years following the Civil War. It became an official federal holiday in 1971, and many Americans observe it by visiting cemeteries or memorials, at family gatherings and by participating in parades. It marks the unofficial beginning of summer.

Hometown Help for Heroes: In addition to the city's annual Memorial Day and Veteran's Day Ceremonies, the City of Fishers' Department of Public Works says they're proud to spearhead the Hometown Help for Heroes initiative to help military families by providing lawn care services and snow removal for families with one or more heads of household deployed in any branch of service. Fishers families with at least one currently deployed head of household are encouraged to submit an application to participate.
