NFL Games Are A No-Go At Popular Fishers Bar After Protests

DETAILS: What Main Event on 96th Street is saying about the decision to not show any of last week's NFL games.

FISHERS, IN – A Fishers bar said no to NFL football this past week, despite Sunday night's game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Seattle Seahawks. Main Event on 96th Street posted to Facebook Tuesday, Sept. 26 announcing none of the Thursday through Monday NFL games would be shown this past week. The bar's staff included the reasoning behind this decision:

"To all our beloved regulars and NFL fans: Due to recent issues regarding our National Anthem and NFL Teams/Owners/Players, we will be exercising our right to protest in kind. This Thursday through Monday night, we will NOT be showing ANY NFL games at The Main Event on 96th. While we respect those persons' rights to demonstrate their feelings over social issues, we also feel strongly that they detract from the game of football and put a polarizing and negative mark on the game.
In lieu of showing games, we are taking this opportunity on Sunday to raise money for a family who has been negatively affected by the recent rash of hurricanes. Please join us for raffles, 50/50 drawings, special beer pricing, DJ music, and more! It will be a Sunday Funday for sure, but it won’t be complete without YOU! Set football aside for one week and take part in a cause that creates tangible results!"

The post on the Main Event on 96th Facebook page has received just under 1,000 reactions and has been shared almost 200 times.

This move follows the decision of the owner of two Chicago bars who is doing the same thing, but for a different reason, as he's waiting until controversial NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick signs with a team.
