Parts Of I-465 Closing For Road Work Until Early October

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — INDOT said crews will begin partial closures on a 10-mile stretch of I-465 between I-70 and I-65 on the city's southwest side starting Sept. 14, for an 18-day effort to complete pavement and bridge repairs. INDOT said it plans to close I-465 eastbound at 9 p.m., Sept. 14 and will reopen it on or before 5 a.m., Sept. 24. Then, I-465 westbound is expected to be closed at 9 p.m., Sept. 28 and will reopen on or before 5 a.m., Oct. 8.

Therefore, the project will not shutdown the eastbound and westbound part of I-465 at that time.

The scope of the project will include:

1) Pavement removal and replacement and concrete bridge approach replacements at four bridges:

• I-465 over Kentucky Avenue/State Road 67
• I-465 over State Ditch
• I-465 over White River
• I-465 over Harding Street/S.R. 37

2) Bridge joint replacements

3) Asphalt and concrete pavement patching

Detour routes, according to INDOT:

• I-65 and I-70 will be detour routes for I-465 during the closure.
• Traffic that would normally use I-465 to reach State Road 37 or State Road 67 will be directed to use I-70 to Harding Street (Exit 78).
• Southbound Harding Street will take motorists to State Road 37 or State Road 67 via Kentucky Avenue.
• Traffic that would normally use U.S. 31 should consider I-65 as an alternate route.
• All Hazmat and oversize/overweight vehicles need to use the I-465 detour as there are restrictions through Indianapolis.
