Zebra Dies Outside At Cold Carroll County Farm: Sheriff

According to sheriff, the animal panicked and inhaled a dangerous amount of cold air when it got its back hooves stuck in a farm fence.

CARROLL COUNTY, IN - A zebra at a farm in the Pittsburgh, Indiana area has died as a result of the cold weather, Carroll County Sheriff Tobe Leazenby confirmed, according to WLFI. The news report said the call regarding the zebra came in Wednesday morning. Sheriff Leazenby told WLFI the sheriff's department spoke with a veterinarian from the State Board of Animal Health, and concluded that the zebra panicked when its back hooves got caught in fencing, causing the animal to inhale a large amount of cold hair, which led to internal damage and death.

There were also kangaroos inside a shelter on the property, and another zebra who the sheriff confirmed has since been moved. According to WLFI, Sheriff Leazenby said the sheriff's office checked out the property, which he reported had enough food, shelter, water and met standards for "adequate provisions" for the outside animals.
