2 Children Dead, 1 Jumps To Safety After Gary Apartment Fire

A boy, 5, and a 2-year-old girl were pronounced dead at a Gary hospital.

GARY, IN — A child jumped from the fourth floor of an apartment building and was caught in a blanket by neighbors, but two others were killed in a Sunday morning apartment fire in Gary, according to media reports. ABC7 reported that the blaze happened in the 5800 block of Forest Court at around 11:40 a.m.

The Lake County, Indiana coroner's office confirmed that two children, a 5-year-old boy and 2-year-old girl, were taken to Northlake Gary Methodist Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead, according to WGN.

Fire officials were expected to release more information on the blaze by Sunday evening.
