Carbon Monoxide Kills Gary Grandmother, 4-Year-Old Critical
Fire officials say they believe an oven was being used to heat the home.

GARY, IN — A 72-year-old grandmother was dead and her 4-year-old granddaughter was in critical condition after they reportedly suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning in their Gary home Wednesday, fire officials said. A Gary Fire Department spokesman said firefighters responded to a home on the west side Wednesday afternoon to find the oven was on and being used to heat the home, WGN reported.
The incident happened in the 700 block of King Street, according to ABC Chicago.
Family members said the home had furnace problems and a repairman had been to the house earlier Wednesday and was planning to return Thursday, ABC reported.
