GARY, IN — First Midwest Bank has released a list of the 19 banks in Illinois and northwest Indiana that will close within the next six months. That includes branches in Gary, Chesterton, Lowell and East Chicago. The bank chain announced the closings late last month.
The closings will leave 110 First Midwest branch locations, the ninth-most of any bank in the Chicago market and the third most in the south suburban area.
In Illinois, these locations will close, according to the Chicago Tribune: Naperville, Crest Hill, two locations in Arlington Heights, Calumet City, Park Forest, Matteson, DeKalb, Crystal Lake, Leland, Serena, Moline, Lakehurst and two in Chicago.

The cuts will mean the elimination of about 150 jobs, according to Crain's Chicago Business. Half of the job cuts are expected to come from attrition, First Midwest said, with the remaining 75 resulting from layoffs.
