Local Couple is Named Franchisee of the Year by Pillar To Post

It might have taken 15 years, but thank goodness Tim James finally realized he was not born to sit in a chair and desperately needed to leave his career as a corporate tax specialist. That was three years ago and last month he and wife Laura received one of the top honors that can be awarded by a franchise company, Franchisee of the Year.

Tim and his wife and business partner, Laura, opened a Pillar To Post Home Inspectors franchise in April 2015. The rest has been a blur. In January 2016, the couple beat out nearly 100 other franchisees to be named Pillar To Post’s “Rookie of the Year” posting the best start up year in Pillar To Post franchise history. In 2017, they were awarded the Affiliate of the Year for their local realtors’ association, Greater Northwest Indiana Association of Realtors.

Now, they are the first couple to be named “Franchisee of the Year” operating for less than three years. In addition, they won several other smaller awards at the convention help in Tampa in January. The company’s U.S. headquarters is there.

Last year sales for the James team were up $334,000 or 117% and their inspections were up by 106%.

By their second anniversary last year the couple had grown to become the largest home inspection company in Northwest Indiana, serving Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Jasper and Newton counties. “We hit revenue and inspection volume goals within two years that we anticipated would take closer to five years,” James said. “And our third year has been an even bigger growth year!”

Oh yes, the James family also consists of three young daughters all under the age of five. While their life is a whirlwind, the couple’s success with Pillar To Post can be attributed to simply delivering what realtors, homebuyers and sellers desire: a thorough home inspection and concise, well-written report in a timely manner. “Our clients and realtors understand we are well-trained, have tremendous technical aptitude and our service level is far beyond what most competitors can match,” said James. “Our vision is to build this into a self-contained machine that operates at a high level whether I am directly involved or not on a day-to-day basis.
