Man Stabs Ex In Head, Calls Her 'Worst Hostage Ever': Police

While holding his ex-girlfriend hostage in a hotel room, police say, he refused to let her get medical treatment after stabbing her head.

GARY, IN — A Portage man was taken into custody Tuesday, Dec. 11, after allegedly holding his ex-girlfriend against her will in a Gary motel and stabbing her in the head, according to a report. She later told police he had called her the "worst hostage ever."

The Northwest Indiana Times reported the 39-year-old man was in a room at the Mosley Motel with his ex-girlfriend, 36, who had booked the room. Police were called to the motel soon before 7 p.m.

According to the woman, her ex had become angry when they were talking in the room. Police said he grabbed a small kitchen knife and stabbed her in the head, hitting the left side of her skull.

Luckily the injury wasn't too serious. She asked him multiple times to call an ambulance, the Times reported police as saying, but he refused. He allegedly kept her from leaving and from calling authorities, and wrapped a bandage around her head.

"You are the worst hostage ever," he said to her, according to the report.

Soon before 7 p.m. when he went to the bathroom, she called 911, police said, the Times reported. Officers arrived and heard crying in the room. When the man finally answered their knocks, the woman ran out.

She had a large cut on her head and a bone chip to her skull, the report said.

Police are working to bring formal charges against the man, but he was taken into custody on suspicion of felony domestic battery an aggravated battery, according to the Times.
