Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop Debuts First Northwest Indiana Location

Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop, known for its award-winning, hand crafted sandwiches, debuted the first northwest Indiana location in Hammond at 902 Roby Drive on Monday, December 9. Capriotti’s will bring the Hammond community its 40-year tradition of slow-roasting whole, all-natural turkeys in-house and hand-pulling them every morning, made-from-scratch meatballs and using premium, fresh ingredients in each of its fan-favorite subs.

Capriotti’s is beloved for its wide array of sandwiches including The Bobbie, made with turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing and mayo, the Capastrami, made with hot pastrami, Swiss cheese, Russian dressing and homemade coleslaw and the Cheesesteak, made with either premium chicken, steak or veggies, melted cheese and hot or sweet peppers. The Hammond Capriotti’s will also offer a drive-thru pick-up window for quick, convenient order-ahead pickup in addition to third-party delivery services with partners including Grub Hub, Postmates, ezCater and more. The new shop will bring 35 new jobs to the Hammond community.

The new restaurant will be owned by local entrepreneurs, Daniel Hoffman, Michael VanderWoude and Barbara VanderWoude, who have been best friends for more than 25 years. The power-trio comes from a combined background in finance, commercial real estate and business ownership. When Barbara came to the U.S. from Poland more than 25 years ago, she dreamed of opening a physical therapy practice. With her husband, it grew to multiple branches throughout northwest Indiana prior to selling it. Michael tried Capriotti’s for the first time 10 years ago at a conference in Las Vegas and it was love at first bite. Now, looking for an opportunity to bring their unique skillsets and a superior product together, the trio knew Capriotti’s would be a perfect fit. The trio has plans to bring an additional two locations across northwest Indiana over the next three years.
