'A Christmas Story' Comes Home: Exhibit Opens Nov. 10

The annual "A Christmas Story" Comes Home exhibit will be on display at the Indiana Welcome Center from Nov. 10 until Dec. 31.

HAMMOND, IN - What's become one of the most iconic Christmas movies has had an entire exhibit dedicated to it in recent years at the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond, the city in which the fictional movie town "Hohman, Indiana" is based. The "A Christmas Story" Comes Home exhibit returns to the museum at 7770 Corinne Dr. this year. It will be on display from Nov. 10 until New Year's Eve, according to a news release from the South Shore Convention & Visitors Authority.

"Visitors are welcome to relive favorite childhood memories of in anticipation of Christmas as they gaze at animated window displays depicting scenes from the holiday movie classic," the release states.

This year's exhibit will include six animated scenes from the 1983 movie that's still shown continuously on television sets over and over again on Christmas Eve. The displays will include Higbee’s Department Store, Flick’s Tongue and the Triple Dog Dare, It’s a Major Award, Santa’s Mountain at Higbee’s, The Bumpus Hounds and A Hero’s Dream, the SSCVA says.

Also returning will be the bronzed statue of Flick with his tongue stuck to the flag pole outside the front doors.

Several special events are planned throughout the exhibit's stay, including a day for families with special needs children on Dec. 7.

The Indiana Welcome Center is located at the intersection of I-80/94 and Kennedy Avenue South in Hammond.
