PORTER, IN — The amount of holiday weekend visitors at Indiana Dunes beaches left authorities overwhelmed as social distancing guidelines remain in place due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to WISH-TV. Traffic was backed up as thousands were at the Indiana Dunes beaches by noon Sunday, with most vehicles in the parking lots sporting Illinois license plates, according to the news report.

John Aierre Anderson, a supervisory ranger of the Indiana Dunes National Park said his team expected the rush of visitors and reminded people about social distancing, but added that managing the large crowds during the coronavirus pandemic was "overwhelming."
