Explosion At Northwest Indiana Post Office Injures Worker: Report

A postal worker was hurt in the blast.

EAST CHICAGO, IN — A postal worker was injured in an explosion at an East Chicago post office, fire officials said Wednesday evening. Authorities told the Times of Northwest Indiana that an explosive device was found at the scene of the blast, which happened just before 6 p.m. at the city post office at 901 E. Chicago Ave.

Fire Chief Anthony Serna told the Times a postal worker was hurt in the explosion but could not say if anyone was in the building at the time of the blast. The post office closes at 6 p.m.

The injured female employee was reportedly taken to St. Catherine Hospital.

The FBI told the Chicago Sun-Times that it's "yet to be determined if this is an act of domestic or international terrorism, but at this time there is no ongoing public safety concern."
