In 2013, Krieg was sued for defamation in Lake County, Indiana, based on statements he made on the blog.
The pipe bomb that was mailed Sept. 6 was addressed to "Victim 1," identified as the attorney who represented the plaintiff in the 2013 defamation case, according to the indictment. Krieg and Victim 1's client ultimately agreed to a settlement in the lawsuit requiring Krieg to pay $45,000 and post an apology on his blog. After the suit was filed, Krieg also filed for bankruptcy, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Indiana's Northern District.
