Post Office Bombing: FBI Releases Sketch of NW Indiana Suspect

The reported pipe bomb explosion injured a postal worker.

EAST CHICAGO, IN — The FBI on Monday released a sketch of the man believed to be responsible for a pipe bomb explosion that injured a postal worker in Northwest Indiana earlier this month. The bombing happened just after 5:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at the East Chicago Post Office, 901 E. Chicago Ave. The FBI on Monday described the suspect as a thin white male about 6 feet tall and 30 years old with a clean-shaven face and dark-rimmed glasses.

Officials said the man wore black pants with very slender legs, dark-colored vinyl sneakers and a faded black hooded sweatshirt. The FBI's Indianapolis Division said he also had a "unique walk."

The pipe bomb did not damage the post office building or disrupt mail service, according to the Northwest Indiana Times, but a postal worker suffered minor injuries. The injured female employee was taken to St. Catherine Hospital after the blast.
