7 Shot At Off-Campus Party Near Ball State University

One person, who officials said is not a student at the university, was arrested in connection with the shooting.

MUNCIE, IN — Seven people, including a Ball State University student, were shot at an off-campus house party in Muncie early Saturday morning, according to school officials and a news report.

In a statement, Ball State officials said that around 12:45 a.m., Muncie Police along with assistance from university police responded to an off-campus private residence in the 2400 block of West Euclid Avenue.

The address is about five blocks from campus. Officials said a shooter has been apprehended and that person is not a student at the university.

The student who was shot was treated and released from the hospital.

Muncie Police Chief Joe Winkle told Fox59 that three people were in critical condition following the shooting. Winkle told the news station that there was some kind of confrontation inside the house that led to the shooting.

"Keeping all members of our campus community safe is a top priority," Ball State University President Geoffrey S. Mearns said in a statement. "This is a very unfortunate event. We wish all the victims a full and prompt recovery."

According to the news report, the man arrested in connection with the shooting was identified as 19-year-old Shaun Harnett, of Muncie. He is charged with two counts of attempted murder, per Fox59.
