I have both a personal and a professional connection to dementia care. As a long distance caregiver, I became my father's Guardian and had administrative responsibility for him, flying home whenever possible to visit him and to support my mother. As a geriatric care manager I have long seen the enormous emotional, financial and physical toll that caring for those with Alzheimer's can take on families.Indiana needs an Advocate to coordinate services for those living with and affected by all dementias. Currently over 110,000 Hoosiers have been diagnosed (with Alzheimer's alone) and need our government to represent and serve those affected by these dementias.
Representative Fady Qaddoura can play an important role in getting this Position created by supporting House Bill 1542 when it comes to the Senate floor. This critical legislation would ensure that a Dementia Coordinator is hired for Indiana and begin creating a State Alzheimer's Plan. Please join me and the Alzheimer's Association in encouraging Senator Qaddoura to support Hoosier families affected by Alzheimer's and other dementias. Together we can work to end this terrible disease.Sincerely, Jennifer Berday, MSW, LCSW, CMC
