Beech Grove Python Owner To Give Up Snakes

Benny Tarplee will give up Python "Vine" and his other snakes three months after the Python went missing.

BEECH GROVE, IN — A Beech Grove man has agreed to give up his snake named "Vine" three months after the 14-foot Burmese Python was loose in the city for several days, WXIN said. The news report said Benny Tarplee also agreed to give up his other snakes as he was facing a $2,500 fine after Vine got loose when someone accidentally left her cage unlocked in May. She was eventually found under Tarplee's shed, WXIN said.

The city said it will drop the fine once Tarplee gets rid of his snakes, signs an affidavit confirming he actually did so, and give up his DNR permit to rehabilitate the snakes. WXIN said according to a city attorney, this addresses community members' safety concerns.

Tarplee set up a GoFundMe page back in May in an effort to get donations for the fine he was then expected to pay.
