Downtown Indy, Inc.’s New Year’s Eve Celebration Moves Locations

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — There's just about three weeks left in 2017, and Downtown Indy, Inc. has announced all the New Year's Eve celebration fun for the city. DII said this year's New Year's Eve Celebration presented by the Indiana Union Construction Industry on Sunday, Dec. 31 from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. According to DII, more than 40,000 people are expected to celebrate New Year's Eve on Georgia and Meridian Streets with live music, a light show, dancing, food, drinks, fireworks and the unique "Indy-fied" midnight extravaganza featuring the IndyCar, which was unveiled Wednesday and will remain on display inside Circle Centre Mall until Dec. 31.
The previous NYE event setting on Georgia and Pennsylvania streets is now a construction site with two new hotels coming in 2019.
“Now in our fourth year, we believe this great civic event is here to stay and we’re excited to bring thousands of residents and visitors back to Georgia Street, but this year using Meridian Street and the Soldiers and Sailors Monument as the stage backdrop,” said Sherry Seiwert, president of Downtown Indy, Inc., in a release. “Cities across the U.S. have their own New Year’s celebrations so it makes perfect sense that we host our own one-of-a-kind tradition.”

DII said the IndyCar (pictured) that will be hoisted high above the crowed and descend to a collective crowd countdown, will be the main focus of the city's fun through the (the new year). It was tested at Maxim Crane Works lot.
Entertainment for the NYE event will be the electric rhythms of three local DJ - DJ GNO, DJ Hugh Jeffner and DJ Slater Hogan, DII said.

“The Indiana Union Construction Industry is thrilled to once again join Downtown Indy, Inc.'s New Year's Eve Celebration as the presenting sponsor," said John Griffin, Central Indiana Building Trades, in a release. “The event is a perfect example of the vibrancy and continued growth in Downtown Indianapolis. As an industry, we were proud to be an integral part of the construction and development on and around Georgia Street, including Bankers Life Fieldhouse, the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium.”
DII said hotel rooms are going quickly, and guests for this event can book and stay at any of the Hilton family of hotels in Downtown Indianapolis, the official New Year’s Eve hotel partner.
