Former Colts, MLB Players Race Up Salesforce Tower

After taking on the world’s best athletes, retired National Football League and Major League Baseball players are suiting up to battle lung disease at the American Lung Association in Indiana’s Fight For Air Climb at Salesforce Tower.

On Saturday, March 9, former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jim Sorgi and former St. Louis Cardinals right fielder Joey Vandever will race up the stairs of Salesforce Tower (47 floors, 1,054 steps) in an effort to raise awareness and money to fight lung disease. After they make it to the top, the duo will take photos with finishers and offer high-fives and encouragement as climbers reach the finish line.

“Firefighters perform some of the most physically and mentally demanding jobs in the world,” Vandever said. “We’re suiting up and tackling this challenge to show our support for our city’s first responders.”

Since retiring from professional sports, Sorgi and Vandever have fed their passion for helping sidelined firefighters and tactical professionals get back into the game of life by providing medical and skills-improvement equipment to those in need. Their company, ProTeam Tactical Performance, is spearheading a one-of-a-kind comprehensive program focused on increasing tactical professionals’ health, well-being and quality of life while reducing injuries through a partnership with the Indianapolis Fire Department.

“We are really excited, and nervous, to take on this challenge,” Sorgi said. “To be able to do this and support local Hoosiers and our chapter of the American Lung Association is an honor.”
